----As a capital city, Fuzhou
is the political, economic and cultural center of Fujian, which,
located in the southeast of China and to the east of Taiwan
Strait, boasts natural and geographical uniqueness. Separated
by the Taiwan Strait, Fuzhou is the nearest place to Taiwan
in the mainland and an important gateway for the three direct
services across the Strait. Fuzhou is one of major residences
for overseas Chinese as well. Its export-oriented economy has
developed quickly since it was designated as a coastal open
city. In this regard, the construction of a large civil airport
has been one of the important strategic actions for regional
economic development; and it is of positive significance to
the economic development of southeast China and mainland China
as a whole, to the acceleration of three direct services progress,
and to the peaceful reunification of motherland.
----The provincial government suggested
building a new airport in 1991 and submitted the report to the
State Council and Central Military Committee of the CPA in August.
With strong support from relevant organizations, the project
was launched on June 3, 1992 and the State Planning Committee
approved the feasibility study report on Nov. 14, 1992. The
project was listed as one of the state projects in 1995.
----Fuzhou Changle International
Airport was planned in three construction phases. The handling
capacity for passengers and cargo in the first phase is 6.5
million and 200,000 tons respectively. The runway is capable
of accommodating B747-400 and MD11 jumbo jets with full loads.
The main construction projects include: a 3,600 meter long and
45 meter wide runway and a 3,600 meter long and 23 meter wide
taxiway and corresponding engineering projects pertaining to
air traffic control, traffic guidance, telecommunication, metrology,
lighting, oil supply, cargo transportation, fire fighting, water
and power supply and waste water treatment. The new airport
is an important airport in China¡¯s civil aviation network and
an important international airport in southeast China.
----The whole of Fuzhou city turned
out for the ceremony at the foundation venue on Jan. 1, 1993.
Fuzhou Changle International airport, the first large modern
airport with self-raised capital by a local government, held
its grand ground-laying ceremony in Zhanggang county. Right
after the launch ceremony, the airport company, led by the Fujian
provincial party committee, the provincial government, the Fuzhou
municipal party committee and the municipal government, started
the infrastructure (water, power and road) construction and
land leveling, effectively conducted land acquisition, building
demolishing, general planning, capital raising, designing, bidding
and so on.
----Thanks to the guidance of leaders
in various governmental levels and the support from all circles
at home and abroad and the concerted efforts of the airport
builders, the first phase of construction was successfully completed.
Pre-preparation was done in 1993; air clearance, water draining,
terminal foundation laying, road paving and dyke strengthening
were carried out in 1994. In 1995, the overall construction
was carried out, followed by installation and decoration. The
first trial flight was made in mid-Jan., 1997; first-phase inspection
for acceptance was done in mid-May and the project was totally
accepted in mid-June. Fuzhou airport was on its way to making
its mark in international civil aviation. With the approval
of CAAC, Fuzhou airport was opened to navigation on June 23,
1997.
----The origin of Fuzhou International
Airport Company Ltd is Fuzhou Changle International Airport
Group Company, which was reshuffled by XIAGC. It was established
on Apr.7th , 2003 and started operation on May 20th . It is wholly owned by XIAGC with registration
capital of RMB500 million.
----The company has three subsidiaries:
XIAFA( an advertising company), XIAFB(a bus company) and XIAFC
(an air catering company).
